Honor updates one of its most interesting foldables with a better screen and a thinner and lighter body, but for now it is only available in China

There are more and more foldable smartphone alternatives in the Chinese market, and one of the companies with a constantly growing portfolio is Honor. The Asian manufacturer has just presented another folding mobile, the Honor Magic Vs2successor to a model that we saw reach the Western market just a few months ago, the Magic Vs.

The new Magic Vs2 will be available first in China, a country where foldables seem to be increasingly popular, which has led Honor to launch no one, not twobut rather three mobiles of this type so far in 2023including the new Magic Vs2, a mobile phone that does not aim to be the brand’s most powerful foldable, but rather a slightly cheaper alternative with interesting improvements compared to the previous generation.

The most interesting changes in the Magic Vs2 are in its screen, its camera and its size

Honor Magic Vs2 Colors Features

The Magic Vs2 has a 7.92-inch LTPO OLED type internal panel, with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a resolution of 2344×2156 pixels, which translates into a density of about 402 pixels per inch. By comparison, the Magic Vs has a 7.9-inch 90Hz OLED display with a resolution of 2272x1984p (about 382 ppi). Although the difference in resolution is not really relevant, the most interesting changes between the two generations are the use of a superior LTPO OLED panel technology and a higher refresh rate which will offer greater fluidity when using the screen, something especially useful when playing games.

As for the cameras, Honor has made some interesting decisions when it comes to the main camera sensors on the Magic Vs2, compared to the original Magic Vs. The main sensor of the new foldable is 50 MP (f/1.9) instead of the 54 MP (f/1.9) of the previous generation, however, the telephoto sensor has taken an interesting leap in the new mobile, with 20 MP (f/2.4) instead of the 8 MP (f/2.4) in the previous model, although the optical zoom of the new Vs2 is only 2.5x, instead of the 3x of the past generation. As for the front cameras, the new model can record video in 4K and 30fps, while the previous generation was limited to a maximum of 1080p and 30fps.

Honor Magic vs2 screen

Another important update between generations is that the Magic Vs2 is considerably thinner and lighter than the first generation of Magic Vs. The new Vs2 is 10.7mm thick when closed and only 5.1mm when open, while the original Vs is 12.9mm thick when closed and 6.1 mm if open. The Vs2 weighs 229 grams, which does not mean that it is a very light mobile phone, but it is undoubtedly an important improvement compared to the 267 grams of the previous generation.

They are changes that reflect what Magic Vs2 is: a minor update but still interesting for one of Honor’s flagship foldables.

Honor Magic Vs2 screen in use

The rest of the specifications largely remain the same: it has the same Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip than the previous model, as well as the same options of 12 or 16 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of storage. They also share the same battery capacity (5,000 mAh) and fast charging speed (66 W).

Honor, a company that a few years ago is no longer a sub-brand of Huaweiis betting on an update that serves to refresh the Magic Vs line without having to classify it as its new foldable flagshiphe already has that label Honor Magic V2.
