The Pixel Tablet has been talked about for some time now but there are still no signs of its imminent arrival on the market. Google’s new device was “announced”, or rather anticipated, last May, during the Google I/O, but neither technical specifications nor a launch date were provided by the Mountain View company. On the hardware side, we know that it will have a Tensor processor and that it will be made with a “porcelain-inspired nano-ceramic coating”. Regarding the sale, there was only talk of a generic 2023

However, the many rumors that have followed one another in recent months have partially filled the curiosity about the technical specifications. In particular, we know that the Pixel Tablet should have a 10.95-inch display with a resolution of 2560×1600 pixels , a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, 8GB of RAM, 128 or 256GB of storage, Wi-Fi 6 and support for the USI 2.0 standard for pens. On the software side, however, the Material You, the philosophy behind Android 12 and 13, will form the basis of the interface which, as stated by Google,

“Just as Pixel smartphones have always been the purest and best expression of Android, the Pixel Tablet will be the best way to experience Android on a tablet.”

Used in conjunction with a dockthe Pixel Tablet will transform into a sort of Nest Hub for home control and management.

In addition to a “basic” version of the Pixel Tablet it was also speculated the possible existence of a “Pro” version. In particular, within the Google Camera Go app code, researcher and leaker Kuba Wojciechowski had found a “Tangorpro” abbreviation in addition to the “Tangor” abbreviation that identifies the tablet. Today, Wojciechowski himself wanted to make some clarifications to avoid confusion.

The leaker, citing an anonymous source, said that the main difference between “Tangor” and “Tangorpro” is that the former has a Tensor processor, the latter has a Tensor G2. Google would have initially built the Pixel Tablet using the Tensor but then, due to production delays, would have updated the hardware with the G2 which will be the final processor.

I have also been provided with a few photos of the device. pic.twitter.com/ctKWQoVDCT

Wojciechowski also showed some images of a pre-production Pixel Tablet where a sticker is visible on the back indicating its compatibility “only with EVT2 K6 and EVT Y4”. The acronym “EVT” refers to “engineering validation testing,” a common step in building and testing a new device. The abbreviations “K6” and “Y4” should refer to the tablet docks, codenamed “Korlan” and “Yuzu”.
