Pixels have always had some unique camera features, like the Magic Eraser that debuted on the latest Pixel 6s.

What is unusual is that this list is suddenly shortened, although that is exactly what is happening with Frequent Faces which disappeared from Pixel phones without a trace earlier this year.

The feature first debuted with the Pixel 4, with the goal of optimizing photo processing for the people you care about most.

When Frequent Faces is enabled, the phone uses on-device processing to identify the people in your shots, and uses those faces that it recognizes most frequently to make decisions about which is the best photograph. Basically it will prioritize those in which the most frequently photographed people look best.

Nevertheless, Frequent Faces seems to have disappeared for everyone a couple of months ago. In response to a support forum post from May, an expert reported that Google disabled the feature “temporarily,” but did not provide any explanation as to why.

We do not know if Google is preparing a solution. Until then, Pixel users around the world, including those pre-ordering the new Pixel 6a, will have to live without Frequent Faces.
