The FCC has certified a new Google device, a smartphone according to what is reported in the document present in the database of the US institution. There are acronyms, some information on connectivity but no images, diagrams or other clues that can let us understand which product we are talking about. Probable that it could be the Pixel 7a or, less likely, the Pixel Fold.

There are four acronyms shown but they would all refer to as many variants of the same product, probably with different specifications for various countries or with different network bands. The main one is the GHL1X, additional models are G82U8, G0DZQ and GWKK3. As for connectivity, we know that this device has support for WiFi 6E, 5G sub-6GHz and NFC.

Since there are no references to 5G mmW, it could be assumed that it is a cheaper product, which would move the scales towards the Pixel 7a side. However, it should be noted that a mmW version was also created for the Pixel 6a for the US operator Verizon. To confirm the hypothesis of the 7a also the serial numbers “28291FQHN” and “28251FQHN” which are very close to the “2A281FQHN” shown on the display of a Pixel 7a DVT (Design Validation Test) unit shown in recent weeks.

Obviously, this does not completely exclude that it could also actually be the Pixel Fold but in this case there are no references to the FCC tests carried out both when open and when closed, which has been done in the past for other folding devices.

According to the latest rumors, the Pixel 7a should integrate a 6.1 inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate, a Google Tensor 2 processor and a main camera with 64MP Sony IMX787 sensor flanked by an ultra wide angle with s13MP Sony IMX712 sensor. On the ecstatic side, the Pixel 7a is expected to echo the design of the Pixel 7 but with thicker bezels.

The confidentiality of the document in the FCC database expires in six months, in time for the possible debut of the Pixel 7a which could arrive at the same time as the Pixel 6a last year, at the end of July. The announcement, however, could come during the Google I / O conference to be held in May.
