Plugins for photo editing: Nik Collection 5 in the test
Nik Collection produces exciting photo effects. The test shows how well black and white implementation and color alienation work in practice.
Table of Contents
The Nik Collection 5 by DxO now consists of eight programs for photo editing, of which three core programs produce photo effects: Color Efex Pro 5 includes 55 filters for color effects. Silver Efex Pro simulates classic black and white photo film. Analog Efex adds dirt and scratches, flare, vignetting, zoom blur, bokeh and other effects with a total of 14 filters. Photographers use them to give digital photos that certain something. Consequently, following the update of Silver Efex Pro in the last version, DxO is now concentrating on the other two effects programs, each of which has been given a revised user interface.
DxO drags the other Nik programs along like a box of old postcards that only wander from cellar to cellar when moving: Viveza is used for selective correction, Dfine reduces image noise, HDR Efex Pro combines exposure series to HDR images, Sharpener sharpens for the output. Dfine’s noise reduction is outdated and DxO shows no signs of replacing it with its much better AI system, DeepPrime.
