It is worth it? Netflix launches basic plan with ads and reduced catalog in Brazil

Update (11/03/2022) – EB

Netflix has just launched its new basic plan with ads. According to the company, the idea is to make entertainment more accessible for those who do not want to pay higher values, although the catalog is reduced.

The confirmation comes from Netflix’s own website, where it is announced that the basic plan with ads is now available in the following countries: Europe, Germany, Australia, Canada, Korea, Spain, United States, France, Italy, Japan, Mexico and the United Kingdom. .

The cost of the basic plan with ads will be R$ 18.90 per month. With it, users will see 15 or 30 second ads, shown before and during series and moviesresulting in an average of 4 to 5 minutes of ads viewed per hour of content watched.

The image will be restricted to 720p resolution (HD) and it will not be possible to download series and movies for offline viewing. Netflix also states that it is working to make more titles available for this mode:

A limited number of movies and series will not be available due to licensing restrictions (but we are already working on that).

Finally, Netflix says that the other plans will not undergo any changes:

Our current plans and subscribers will not be impacted. Basic with Ads complements the existing Basic, Standard, and Premium ad-free plans.

Finally, it is worth remembering that the basic plan with ads is only valid for one screen, that is, it cannot be shared with more people using the same account.

Netflix confirms that cheaper plan with ads will have a catalog with less content

This week, Netflix finally made official the launch of its cheapest plan with ads in Europe. Scheduled to launch on November 3, the new plan called “Basic with Ads” promises to leverage platform subscriptions and offer more options for consumers.

While Netflix described the new plan as “Basic with Ads has everything people love about Netflix,” in July, Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s co-executive director and chief content officer, had indicated that this new plan could count a smaller catalog than the other plans of the service.

This is due to the fact that since Netflix has never had ads, and didn’t intend to until recently, some of the licensing deals they’ve negotiated for movies and TV shows specifically prohibit them from being shown with ads.

Variety spoke about this and cited some comments from Greg Peters, Netflix’s COO, who promised that Netflix intends to work to reduce the number of titles that will be unavailable on the Basic plan over time.

A limited number of movies and TV shows will not be available due to licensing restrictions, and we will work to reduce this over time.

For now, we still don’t know exactly which titles will be left out of the plan with announcements at launch, but this is certainly a reason to look before you decide to change your current plan or make a new subscription.

Netflix: Cheaper subscription with ads won’t include all platform content

Netflix will launch its cheapest subscription with ads next year, but users won’t be able to access all the platform’s content available on the standard plan.

according to deadlineNetflix co-CEO and chief content officer Ted Sarandos admitted the information at a recent meeting about the company’s earnings in recent months.

The cheapest ad-supported subscription plan will not include all licensed Netflix content at launch. The streaming giant will need to negotiate with studios and distributors to convince them to change the previously stipulated deal.

Based on recent information from The Wall Street Journal, Netflix is reportedly negotiating its deals with Warner Bros. (studio of “You), Universal Television (producer of Russian Doll) and Sony Pictures Television (producer of Cobra Kai). The company will also need to renegotiate the rights to some older series, such as Breaking Bad.

Sarandos said during the meeting that most Netflix shows will be included in the new plan, but there are some that won’t be possible without negotiations with the studios. However, he stresses that if the subscription were launched today, users would have a great experience.

During the meeting, he also confirmed that Netflix lost almost 1 million subscribers in the second quarter of 2022. Despite the negative result, the company made a profit of US$ 1.44 billion (~R$ 7.77 billion) and expects to increase the number of users by 1 million in the next quarter. According to Sarandos, the streaming giant will take new steps to increase its subscriber base.
