Version 3.1 of Google Home has been released with some refinements over the previous update. Among the novelties, there is a new light control and a new interface for users who use the app on the tablet.

For tablets, the content of each tab – Favourites, Devices, Automations, Activity and Settings – is now placed in a new pill, with rounded corners, different from the navigation rail and top app bar. The last components are displayed on a different background (light blue when dark theme is off).

The other big change is that the Devices tab adopts a secondary navigation element that lists each room. So selecting one will immediately scroll to that grouping, with each device block narrower as a result. The bar does not appear in portrait orientation, although the breadcrumb still appears.

Version 3.1 of the Google Home app on Android also introduced new lighting controllers. The glow arc is replaced by a pill-shaped slider with six quick options. A lighting fab brings up a new sheet with two tabs: the first one shows a track for control the temperature and the other exposes a circular color picker.

Google has also tweaked the controller page for other devices so that the name is now in the top left corner instead of centered. Cue chips can now appear higher on the page, while playback information now appears below the controls.

The update is now available on the Play Store.
