The iPhone 15 Pro will have thinner frames and curved edges

According to various sources, the next iPhone 15 will switch from a Lightning connector to USB-C, but new information shared this week reveals additional data.

Apparently, the two lower-end iPhone 15 models will not see a huge improvement in data transfer speeds over previous generations of iPhones, despite the connector change.

According to LeaksApplePro, only the two highest-end iPhone 15 devices will enjoy super-fast speeds “similar to USB 3.2 technology”. Something like this had been predicted before by Ming-Chi Kuo; however, this latest report claims that this has been confirmed in the operating system code.

So while the wait for a USB-C iPhone seems to be coming to an end, not all devices will behave the same. The likely dubbed Apple iPhone 15 and Apple iPhone 15 Plus will get rid of the Lightning ports, but will reportedly see their USB-C ports restricted to a data transfer rate similar to that found on the iPhone 14 Pro, which is equivalent to USB. 2.0 (480 Mbps or 60 MB/s).

Those who get hold of an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max (also known as iPhone 15 Ultra), will be able to transfer data at speeds of up to 5 Gbps (625 MB/s). That’s the speed limit for USB 3.2 technology, which, according to the apparent iOS 17 code leak, is being reserved for 2023 USB-C iPhone Pro models.
