While several technology giants carried out mass layoffs in early 2023, Apple is going the opposite way and one of the new vacancies published by it drew attention, as it is recruiting a tester for iPhones, iPads and other devices that have not yet been released.
The vacancy advertised on Apple’s official website is named “Cellular Field Design Engineer” and is destined for São Paulo. The description mentions that the contractor will work with Apple’s Field Design Engineering to test devices that have not yet been released, but this requires a lot of knowledge.
Among the job requirements are:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (preferred) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or similar;
- About 3 years of experience in end-to-end testing of cellular technologies;
- Working knowledge of at least one of the wireless technologies: 5G NR, LTE / LTE-A, UMTS;
- Have high level of knowledge in LTE PHY/MAC cellular protocols in upper layers and call processing;
- Clear communication with various levels of an organization;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, detail oriented, analytical, able to work independently;
- Availability to travel 50% of working time both nationally and internationally.

We are looking for someone to work with hardware and software development teams and other cross-functional teams to identify issues that affect mobile performance. You will perform deep analysis on internal logs to understand and identify the root cause of any hardware or system issue.
