The new tool to detect written texts using artificial intelligence can now be used, and has a low margin of error.

Since the launch of ChatGPT and other generative artificial intelligence in text format such as Bing Chat (now Copilot) or Perplexity, there is the possibility of finding texts written by this technology without knowing itsomething that can be very obvious at times, but at other times is difficult to see.

Now the popular plagiarism identifier, Plaghas launched in Spain a tool capable of detecting whether what you are reading has been written by artificial intelligence, in whole or in part, something that can be especially useful in schools and other educational institutions.

The best thing about this tool is that it is now available to users completely free of charge in Spain, as long as it is for personal use. Soon, the company hopes to be able expand this service to ten other European countriesbut it is great news that Spanish is the first language in Europe that can use it.

How does it work?

The main function of this tool is to detect if a text has been created by AI, and to do so it uses several indicators such as the precision and completeness of the text, indicating how many elements have been recognized and evaluated. According to the company itself, only 6.6% of the cases presented may not be identified. This means that the application has a certain margin of error, so there are times when its results may not be completely accurate.

According to Horst Klaus, founder of Plag, “when thinking about text recognition systems created by AI, it is important to keep in mind that we can only rely on a probabilistic estimate, which does not always correspond to reality.” Even so, the company assures that if its model shows more than a 50% probability that a text was written by an artificial intelligence, it surely has.

Text analysis in Plag

The operation for the user is very simple. Simply go to the company’s website and Enter the text you want to analyze in the box that appears for this purpose. It has a limit of 2000 characters, so if you want to analyze a longer text, you will have to register. This also has advantages such as a work panel to keep everything more organized. To access, you just have to go to the company’s website.

This tool analyzes the text phrase by phrase, and this makes the mouse over any of them to see the probabilities which must have been written by artificial intelligence. The process is fairly short, making it ideal for quick checks.
