One of the most significant changes in the latest Apple iPhones, or rather, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Maxis the inclusion of a new button that allows you to invoke actions all types. But no matter how much Apple boasts, on Android we have more than valid alternatives, and when we don’t, they end up adapting.

This is the case of Xiaomi, which in its old customization layer, MIUI 14, and also in the new HyperOS experience provides us with an option with which to replicate it. We tell you how to configure it and what actions you can assign to it.

We don’t have an action button, but we do have buttons. And it’s enough thanks to MIUI and HyperOS

Among the actions available for the action button of the latest Apple iPhones, we find the possibility of turning on the flashlight, as well as others such as quickly accessing the camera. However, as you may be thinking, it is not something groundbreaking and much less new, on Android we have seen similar experiments.

If you are a lucky owner of a smartphone from the most popular Chinese firm, Xiaomi, you can also configure it to take advantage of physical buttons. Furthermore, it does not matter whether you already enjoy the renewed operating system, HyperOS, or continue with the traditional customization layer.

Where is this option located? How could it be otherwise, in settings. Following this route you will reach it quickly:

  • Open the settings on your Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO mobile with MIUI 14 or HyperOS.
  • Scroll to the bottom, where you will see the ‘Additional settings’ section. Tap on it.
  • Next, under the ‘Accessibility’ section you will see the ‘Gesture Shortcuts’ setting.
  • Ready! From here you can configure the buttons on your mobile to give them a new function.

Everything you can do with the buttons on your Xiaomi

To begin with, in the section we have gone to, we find several actions available. The first, the most common: invoke the Google Assistant by holding down the power button for half a second. You probably have it active, but if it bothers you you can disable it.

Now, we enter into one of the possibilities that iPhones have with the action button: run camera. To do this, we must enter ‘Run Camera’ and activate the ‘Press the power button twice’ option. As simple as that.

Do you usually turn on the flashlight on your cell phone? Ditch the camera idea and take advantage of the ‘Turn on the flashlight’ feature. Again, a double press will turn it on, even with the phone locked.

In this configuration section we find other shortcuts to functions such as partial screenshots (by making a gesture with three fingers) or complete (we can assign it to the volume down button and power button). They also allow you to use the back of the mobile to launch other actions that we can configure in ‘Back touch’.

The truth is that they are quite versatile options, and although we do not have a dedicated button for them, the physical buttons are enough that our Xiaomi has. And who knows if in the future updates will add more possibilities, everything will depend on user requests.
