New bug? Pixel 7 and 7 Pro display poor image quality in video calls

The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are Google’s current flagships equipped with the powerful proprietary Tensor G2 chipset and other advanced components, including on the back of the Pro variant a triple sensor configuration of 50 megapixels, 12 MP and 48 MP, while on the front there is a 10.8 MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture on both phones.

The Pixel line became popular among users due to the enormous photographic quality of the cameras through GCam, an application originally developed for Google smartphones, but which quickly gained a version adapted for other devices through an installer in .apk format.

Despite the powerful set of cameras, several Pixel 7 and 7 Pro owners complain about the low quality of images during video calls, including on the Google Meet platform. According to a Reddit user, the video recorded by the current generation has a higher level of blur compared to predecessors, thus reducing the quality of the call.

Apparently, this “bug” also happens in other apps, such as WhatsApp, Telegram and Instagram messengers as well in video calls. The characteristics reported by users suggest that it is a software failure rather than a hardware one, which can be corrected remotely by the developer.

Android Police contacted Google for information about this user complaint, but there is still no official position on the subject.
