Netflix’s economic plan, supported by announcements, we have been able to learn in detail little by little, as new rumors and official announcements emerge.

Already available in 12 territories, this type of streaming service has a limitation that may not be to the liking of all its users: this plan is not compatible with all the devices officially supported by the platform.

Netflix ad-supported plan doesn’t work on any device

This detail is officially confirmed by the streaming service, through the section dedicated to its “Basic with Ads” plan, in the support portal from Netflix.

In its guide, the company indicates that the content released for this plan is not accessible through Apple TV and PlayStation 3 devices (but not PS4 and PS5, which do support this subscription modality). The alternative to access Netflix content through these media is by purchasing the basic subscription without ads or a higher plan.

The same fate befalls the first, second and third generation Chromecast devices, also including the Chromecast Ultra. To view content through this medium, compatibility is only offered with devices that have support for Google TV.

As for mobile devices, it is required to have iOS 15 or higher, or Android 7 or higher.

The rest of the devices usually dedicated to the use of Netflix, such as Smart TVs, computers (PC and Mac) and even Amazon devices (Fire TV / Stick), will work without problems when accessing with a basic subscription and with ads.

This new Netflix plan offers a reduced range of series and movies compared to its other plans, due to licensing restrictions. These titles appear with a lock icon when browsing your catalog. As for the ads, according to the platform, they would be shown in an average of 4 minutes of advertising per hour.

Additionally, this Netflix plan provides free and ad-free access to its mobile game catalog.

It should be remembered that this type of Netflix subscription is already deployed in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Australia, Japan, Korea, Brazil, Canada and Mexico. Soon, on November 10 at 5:00 p.m., it will also arrive in Spain, for a fee of 5.49 euros per month.
