Mobile game studio Snowman, known for titles like Alto’s Adventure and Alto’s Odyssey, has launched its new game exclusively with Netflix. Laya’s Horizon is a wingsuit flight game that allows players to fly, dive and glide across a vast peaceful world, unlocking new abilities along the way. The game is available on iOS and Android through Netflix Games.
An ambitious project
According to Ryan Cash, Snowman’s founder and CEO, the studio began work on Laya’s Horizon in May 2018 and considers it their most ambitious project yet. Unlike its previous titles, which were procedurally generated, Laya’s Horizon is entirely hand-crafted. Every tree and detail in the game has been placed by members of the Snowman team, making the game world truly unique.
In terms of gameplay, Laya’s Horizon ventures into the third dimension, which means that players will have to make more complex decisions as they try to fly through narrow spaces or avoid trees. The game offers precise control of the characters, allowing players to perform complex maneuvers and glide with style.
A game to escape
Snowman’s goal with Laya’s Horizon is to offer players an experience that allows them to escape to a beautiful and peaceful world, where they can relax and enjoy the flight. According to Cash, the project was inspired by his passion for flying, which has been in his life since he was a child. The game is designed to give players the feeling of flying, an experience that we have all dreamed of.
Collaboration with Netflix
This isn’t the first project Snowman has collaborated on with Netflix. In September 2022, the studio released Lucky Luna, a vertically scrolling platform game, also exclusively with Netflix Games. According to Cash, Snowman is excited to continue working with the streaming giant for many more years to come.
Netflix has been investing in games since last year, with plans to release 40 games this year and another 70 in development in collaboration with third-party partners. In addition, it has 16 games in development in its own internal studios. The acquisition of Ustwo’s Monument Valley franchise was also recently announced, with the addition of Monument Valley 1 and 2 to its platform.
Laya’s Horizon offers players a unique flying experience, where they can immerse themselves in a beautiful and peaceful world while exploring new skills and abilities.
