The iPhone waterproofing cat-and-mouse game continues. The Odyssey Team will soon also support iOS 15 and the iPhone 13 with Cheyote.

Jailbreak fans have had no luck with iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 so far. Despite the fact that Apple plans to replace the operating system with version 16 in just a few months, there are no opening tools. The jailbreak team Odyssey now wants to make progress and announces a release in a timely manner.

Like it on Twitter in connection with first screenshots is called, the availability is “coming soon”. More information, later circulated on Reddit, state however That the jailbreak, also called “Taurine15”, which is said to be “going well”, has some requirements that not everyone who is interested should like. Jailbreaks open the system to changes that the manufacturer normally does not allow.

At launch, Cheyote, whose name is the English variant of the chayote plant, will only be available for iOS 15.0 to iOS 15.1.1. Anyone who has already updated their iPhone or iPad to a higher version will stay out for the time being. “Later” the Odyssey team expects that iOS 15.4.1 will also be supported. This in turn is older than the current iOS 15.5, which Apple released in May. For iOS 15.5, there are currently no suitable exploits for a jailbreak; it remains unclear whether the necessary gaps will still be found.

In addition to the initial support of iOS 15, Cheyote would have another novelty to offer: the jailbreak would also open Apple’s latest iPhone 13 generation, which only runs with iOS 15, for the first time. Depending on when the jailbreak comes, it would come shortly before the release of the iPhone 14 generation, which is expected in September.

A new interface can be seen in the screenshots released by the Odyssey team, but so far they are only mockups in Sketch, the group freely admits. Cheyote should also not remain the only jailbreak. Other developers like security expert Linus Henze, known for Fugu14, an untethered jailbreak for iOS 14, want to refill and are also targeting jailbreaks for iOS 15 to 15.4.1. There is already a preview date for Fugu15: at the conference “Objective by the Sea” in October the expert who himself discovered important security gaps in iOS is there.
