Twitter removed the verified seal from free accounts last Thursday (20) and this was enough to introduce confusion on the social network. Now users are accusing Elon Musk of fraud, as only 28 of the 387,000 verified accounts paid for the subscription and some of them are fake and deceased person profiles.

For us to better understand the situation, Elon Musk announced that all accounts that wanted to keep the verified seal should subscribe to Twitter Blue starting April 20th. Companies were required to pay $1,000 a month to maintain the gold seal.

However, some accounts continued to have the verified badge after this date including deceased celebrities like Chadwick Boseman. This led platform users to question whether anyone actually paid for the seal, as Neil Gaiman was one of the recipients and claims he did not sign Twitter Blue.

The answer came from Elon Musk himself, who revealed that he paid for these subscriptions personally. Although it seems a generous gesture, the problems begin here, as users of the social network considered that including the seal in accounts that do not subscribe to Twitter Blue is a kind of fraud, as it aims to encourage other people to sign to obtain it.

The possible answer to this question would be that Twitter is returning the blue badge to accounts that have more than 1 million followers with the claim that they may have “some difficulty signing up for the service”, which makes no sense.

If this is not enough, it is worth remembering that some companies received the golden seal even without paying the US$ 1,000 monthly fee. that can affect the company’s image, as has already happened once on Twitter.

Will Twitter ever be able to organize its badges again?
