In many MMORPGs you can represent two different factions, but within your group you are one of the good guys. But there are also games where you can actually slip into the role of a villain. We have put together suitable MMORPGs for you. What is this list about? We’ll show you three MMORPGs in which you can really live out your evil side. It’s not just about causing trouble for the “good faction”, but actually taking on the role of a villain.

How can you live out your evil side? In SWTOR you can create a character on either the Republic or the Empire side. Especially as a member of the Empire, you experience a story that is about manipulating, torturing or eliminating enemies. You can even attack innocent civilians.  The MMORPG constantly gives you the choice of whether you really want to kill characters or let them escape. Depending on your decision, you will collect good or bad “reputation”. The characters around you also react accordingly, ostracizing you for your evil deeds. If you are even constantly evil, your appearance changes slightly. So you can become a real meanie and you can see it right away. However, these decisions are not only tied to the Empire. Even as a member of the Republic, you can spare certain people or take their lives within the story. In one quest, for example, a lady I actually trusted betrayed me. Now I can beat them up, banish them from the region or kill them.

Of course, a good Jedi would leave it at the lecture. But in the end the decision is yours.

What else does the game offer? Even at launch, Star Wars: The Old Republic was considered a kind of “WoW in space.” This is mainly due to the almost identical structure with two factions, quests and dungeons in PvE, instanced PvP and the common tab-targeting combat system. However, SWTOR scores with its good story, the special companion system and some special PvP modes such as Hutt Ball or battles in spaceships.

Most recently, the game received the new expansion Legacy of the Sith at the beginning of 2022, which brought some innovations but was overall disappointing in terms of scope . In addition, the studio was recently outsourced from Bioware to Broadsword, who also manage Dark Age of Camelot. Is it still worth joining in 2023? The base game and many other SWTOR contents are completely free to play. Because of the story and the soundtrack, it’s actually always worth getting into the MMORPG – especially if you’re a fan of Star Wars.

However, it is now difficult if you really want to experience a game “hardcore”. New updates are currently coming out too slowly for that. In addition, the combat system feels quite slow, which doesn’t necessarily fit in with modern times. However, if you just want to pass some time and have a lot of fun, you can still start with Star Wars: The Old Republic in 2023.
