Surely you have already lost count of all the functions that WhatsApp has in development, and many others in beta. And not to mention the series of new features that were implemented a few weeks ago in the stable version of the app.

For example, one of the functions that has been in development for some time has to do with the possibility of saving messages in temporary chats. A dynamic that can already be seen in the beta version of WhatsApp, and that allows us to know how it works.

This is the “retained messages” of WhatsApp

If you frequently use WhatsApp, you will know that it allows you to activate the “Temporary messages” option, so that they are deleted when a certain time has passed since they were sent. It can be 24 hours, 90 days… depending on the configuration you have established.

While this is a handy move, as it saves us from having to worry about removing content we don’t want to save, we don’t always want to remove everything that appears in chat. A message may have some important data that we want to keep.

In those cases, there are no other options left than to copy the data and save it in a notes app, or disable temporary messages. However, the new dynamic of “kept messages” that WhatsApp is testing will solve this problem for you.

The idea is that you can keep the message you want in a temporary chat. To do this, you just have to press and hold the corresponding message and choose the Marker icon.

This way, it will make this exception when you delete temporary chat messages. In addition to staying in the conversation, they will have a special “Keeping Messages” section in the chat tab.

WhatsApp has also taken into account that the person who wrote the message may not want their contact to keep it. And to do this, it will notify the user that someone has saved the message through a notification . So you can allow the message to persist or revert the action.

At the moment, this function is in the beta version of WhatsApp, and we will have to wait for it to be implemented in the stable version in a future update.
