Xiaomi is pushing hard to become a serious rival to Tesla in China. According to the first comparisons carried out by specialized media, the most sophisticated version of the SU7 is capable of outperforming the Tesla Model 3 in various field tests.

The electric car that Xiaomi launched last week has not only caught the eyes of thousands of buyers. Its interior also complies, even surpassing the capabilities of what is commonly recognized as its direct rival, the Tesla Model 3.

Specifically, the Xiaomi SU7 Max (the most expensive model of the three, at a price of approximately 38,624 euros), surpasses the Model 3 (approximately 40,000 euros) in both travel distance per charge and acceleration speed.

In its Max model, the Chinese company’s SU7 has shown greater autonomy, surpassing that of the Tesla Model 3 Highland AWD Long Range by 75 kilometers. It also surpasses Elon Musk’s electric car in acceleration time, going 1.38 seconds faster from 0 to 100km/h than said Tesla model . This is attested to by the real driving technical tests carried out by the Chinese media outlet Dongchendi, collected by the media outlet CarNewsChina.

According to tests carried out by Dongchendi, both cars have a lower level of autonomy than detailed in the official guides. The official autonomy figure of the SU7 is 800 kilometers per charge according to the Chinese cycle (CLTC), while the Tesla Model 3 claims about 629 kilometers of travel. However, the driving tests showed a range of 643km for the Xiaomi and a range of 568km for the Tesla.

On the other hand, the SU7 Max managed to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers/hour in just 3.24 seconds . It is, therefore, 1.38 seconds ahead of the Model 3, which performed this same acceleration in 4.62 seconds.

The same comparisons were also made against the Nio ET5, from the Chinese car manufacturer Nio. Range tests revealed a range of 455 km for this model, the lowest of the three vehicles. In acceleration, The Nio was in second position behind the SU7, managing to go from 0 to 100km/h in 3.83 seconds. More Chinese vehicles from BYD, Zeeker and Xpeng entered the comparison, but all of them showed lower figures than Xiaomi, Tesla and Nio.

The Xiaomi also wins in the 0.4 kilometer race

In a running test over a distance of 0.4 kilometers, the Xiaomi SU7 Max came first in 11.17 seconds. It is followed by the Nio ET5 in 12.37 seconds and, finally, the Tesla Model 3 Highlands, in a time of 12.77 seconds.

In this way, at least in the Chinese press they already celebrate the technical superiority of the Xiaomi sedan. According to these results, the SU7 in its Max model not only has a luxurious-looking finish, but also a technical section capable of rivaling without problem with the Tesla Model 3, which is still more expensive than the Chinese brand.

Currently, the high expectation generated after the Xiaomi vehicle went on sale has forced the company to warn of possible delays of months in delivery. Likewise, there have been a large number of requests for dynamic tests in its stores in China. Specifically, about 120 a day, according to Xataka. The Chinese company is very ambitious with its jump into the electric vehicle market, and sees the SU7 as a potential competitor to big brands such as the Porsche Tycan or the Audi e-Tron GT.
