instant messaging system WhatsApp is being restored after suffering a worldwide outage that has lasted approximately two hours for reasons that are currently unknown. The application began to have errors around 9:17 a.m., according to different pages that monitor the operation of the main social networks in real time, which already reflect the slow recovery of the service. This newspaper has repeatedly verified how the service, owned by Meta (Facebook), did not allow the sending and receiving of text messages or phone calls. At 11:08 a.m., the services have started working again. The failures have been communicated and shared on social networks on a recurring basis.

The Bloomberg agency cites the specialized portal Downdetector, according to which the problems started at 03:17 a.m. on the East Coast of the United States, that is, 09:17 a.m. Spanish time, with some 20,000 users who would have reported to this portal the failure reports of the service. Other pages have indicated that the problems have started around 08:00 Spanish time. According to Reuters, the problems would have been reported in India, the United Kingdom, South Africa and parts of Asia, in addition to those already cited in Spain. “We are aware that some people are now having problems sending messages, and we are working to restore WhatsApp service for everyone as quickly as possible,” a WhatsApp spokesman told Reuters.

The Downdetector website already reflects a significant drop in the number of incidents reported by users and hundreds of communications about the recovery of the service.

Most users can already send and receive messages, and also check through the double blue “tick” that their messages have already been read by the recipient. Slower is the recovery of the services of this application through the WhatsApp service that many users use on computers and tablets.

The WhatsApp application, which has nearly 2,000 million users around the world, allows you to send and receive messages over the Internet, which is why it has replaced and displaced other traditional services such as SMS in many cases.
