Riot Games mass layoffs across support, esports, and more

The technology industry is going through a very delicate period, with many companies carrying out mass layoffs and leaving thousands of employees unemployed.

After Microsoft, Riot Games, the company responsible for games like League of Legends and Valorant, is the next big company in the business to start the employee cuts.

Journalist Jacob Wolf revealed on Twitter that Riot Games is reducing its workforce in areas such as eSports, human resources and support. The journalist is not sure how many employees were cut from the company.

This is yet another sign of a trend already practiced recently by technology companies like Google, Amazon and others, which greatly increased their workforce during the pandemic and now need to downsize a little amid an environment of near recession.

Despite being a subsidiary of the Chinese giant Tencent, Riot had a difficult start to the year with League of Legends, with many players criticizing the company for the drop in the quality of the video of the beginning of the season in the game, which is always a reason for euphoria among the players.

The negative effect was so great that the company had to apologize publicly, in addition to releasing a video in which its producers discuss plans for the future of the game in advance, as a way of showing that they are still engaged with it. and reassure the players.

Despite the layoffs, Riot still has a number of projects announced for release in the future, including indie games Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story and CONV/RGENCE: A League of Legends Story, as well as the fighting game Project L and the MMORPG Project F, also derived from League of Legends. In addition, recently a rumor emerged that the company is also working on yet another spin-off title called Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story, but this has yet to be confirmed.

Will these laid-off employees be able to relocate quickly?
