YouTube is updating its policies regarding content created by dedicated gaming creators.

A new policy that could affect your monetization, both in those videos that you publish from now on and in the older ones.

New YouTube Policies Affecting Video Monetization

The YouTube team is updating some of their policies related to video monetization. A change that affects gamers and the content they generate on the platform.

As can be read in the YouTube Help Center, a video could be excluded from monetization if there are insults in the first few seconds of the video, or if swearing and profanity are frequent throughout the content.

On the other hand, they have also clarified the terms regarding the graphic violence allowed in video game videos:

Content with non-explicit images of dead bodies displayed without context, video game images with violence directed at real people or acts intended to create shocking experiences (such as brutal massacres), and implicit images of the moment of death (such as a building being bombed with people inside ) cannot receive advertising revenue

You will see that the explanation of the new policies is extensive, and that what is allowed within the videos will depend on a number of factors. For example, a type of content may not be allowed for the first 15 seconds if you want to monetize it, but it may not be a problem for the rest of the video.

On the other hand, this update is being a headache for some content creators, since it seems to be applied retroactively. So it doesn’t matter when you uploaded the videos, whether they are new or old, they will have to comply with this new YouTube policy.
