According to the Twitter post of Unknownz21, the iPhone 15 could have been equipped with a Lightning port rather than USB-C. The firm at the apple would indeed have considered continuing to use its own 8-pin connector in its new range of iPhones. That said, Apple would have quickly integrated the new port into the specifications of its smartphones.

Indeed, according to Unknownz21, “the USB-C port was in test as early as January 2022, and almost all prototypes took this plug rather than Lightning since March 2022”. Apple has long been reluctant to integrate a USB port into its iPhones. Macs and iPads have already transitioned to this new connector, and once the iPhones have also adopted it, only the AirPods, AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Max and accessories such as the Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad, Magic Mouse and other first generation Apple Pencil, will be equipped with Apple’s proprietary connector.

iPhones will switch to USB-C, but other brand products remain in Lightning

There is no doubt that the next iterations of these products will also switch to USB-C, and this is good news for fans of the brand, who will be able to charge their devices with the same cable. In addition, Apple has found a way to keep the benefits of its MFi program. It is rumored that the firm at the apple will integrate into its devices a controller that will change the data rate or charging power depending on whether the accessory used is Made For iOS.

The iPhone 15 is eagerly awaited, and rumors are rife about the smartphones that should be presented this fall. While it was rumored that the iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max (and the still hypothetical 15 Ultra) wouldn’t have physical buttons, Ming-Chi Kuo, one of the most trusted experts when it comes to ‘Apple says that the adoption of capacitive buttons is not yet on the agenda, for technical reasons.
