Instagram supports what has become a rather widespread trend among artists, influencers and content creators, namely that of “link in bio”: in the past few hours the boss of Meta Mark Zuckerberg has announced, via his Instagram broadcast channel, that it will soon be possible to insert up to five links, while so far there was only room for one. Zuckerberg has not released many details about it, for example on release times and platforms: he limited himself to saying that it is probably one of the most requested features ever. For what it’s worth, we already have direct hits on the Android app, but not on the desktop website. To take advantage of this feature, the procedure is as follows:

  • Open the official Instagram app on your smartphone
  • Open the fifth tab (farthest on the right) in the bottom navigation bar, marked with your profile picture
  • At the top left, just below the profile picture, there is the button Edit profilewhich must be pressed
  • Under the heading Bio an entry should appear Linkswhich must be pressed
  • From here you can add external links or links from Facebook.

As you can see in the example screenshots above, the full domain of one of the URLs will be shown in the bio and a counter indicating how many more there are. By pressing/clicking on it, a small popup will open which will allow you to open them all. In addition to the URL, you can add a short description for each item.

It will be interesting to understand whether the novelty will have some kind of consequence for link aggregation services such as Linktree, Beacons and the like, born precisely to make up for the limitations of Instagram. It is true that these services are now much more versatile, and can go well beyond the five links, however it can be assumed that for many the option integrated into the app could be more than enough.
