Instagram launched a few months ago the new “Shopping” section allowing content creators and brands to create a virtual storefront within the platform to sell products from different categories. This space can be accessed by clicking on a button on the bottom menu of the application on both Android and iOS.

According to The Verge, the developer has released an update replacing the shopping button with the notifications button. This change was confirmed by Anne Yeh, a spokeswoman for Meta, who stated, “As part of our ongoing work to simplify your Instagram experience, we are testing some changes to the app’s main navigation bar.”

In the case of users who received the update, the Shopping tab was moved to a position within the app’s settings next to the posts saved in the account. As with previous changes, we still don’t know if the company will adopt this format for everyone or if it will be a change restricted to some countries.

In any case, it is evident that the Instagram mall may not have lived up to the developer’s expectations and, therefore, will lose its spotlight in the feed. Apparently, Meta (formerly Facebook) intends to focus its revenue from ads rather than commission on sales on its platforms, such as WhatsApp Pay and Shopping, for example.
