Instagram is testing a new function within its app that reminds us a lot of the dynamics of BeReal.

The idea is to challenge users to take a photo of themselves in less than 2 minutes when carrying an Instagram notification. Does this idea seem familiar to you? At the moment, it is only part of an internal test, but it is not ruled out that it will be implemented in the app.

Instagram is testing a dynamic similar to BeReal

The new feature that Instagram is testing is called “Candid Challenges”, and it offers users a dynamic similar to BeReal.

If you have taken a tour of this application, you will know that its dynamic revolves around the challenge of taking a picture in less than 2 minutes when you receive the notification. A notification that appears at a different time each day, as the idea is to be “spontaneous and authentic”.

Instagram is copying this idea to bring it to the application and challenge users with this proposal. As can be seen in the screenshot you share Alessandro Paluzzi on their Twitter account, the description for Candid Challenges reads “…every day at a different time, get a notification to capture and share a photo within 2 minutes.”

So when you receive the notice, you will have that time limit to take the photo with the Instagram camera. At the moment, the Instagram team has confirmed that it is an internal test, as mentioned in Engadget, and they have not mentioned if they have plans to test it with users.

We already know that Instagram has many features in testing and many more in development. Many of them are dedicated to promoting Reels on the platform and promoting this format more and more. For example, one of the latest features launched on the platform aims to add more interaction in the Reels and as an extra help for the videos to go viral.
