Twitter’s verification badge has become a hot topic recently, and now Gmail is also adding a blue badge on verified senders, but the idea serves a slightly different purpose. As announced by Google, the idea is to identify reliable senders to avoid scams.

As we can see in the image below, the example shows that the verification stamp will be displayed next to the name of the sender. When hovering the mouse over the stamp, the following message will be shown:

The sender of this email has been verified as the owner of Google.com and the logo in the profile picture.

Obviously the owner will vary by sender, but the verification will be based on the BIMI feature of Tag Indicators for Message Identification that already exists in Gmail. In it, companies need to authenticate the logo they use in their email to confirm that it really belongs to them.

Although it seems like a small thing, this is great news to avoid spam and email scams, as users will be able to identify when someone is trying to impersonate a trusted sender to steal their information.

Google says the new feature will apply to all Gmail users on Workspace and will be available to all users by May 6 as the rollout is rolling out gradually. The function will be activated automatically for everyone.
