Performance for everyday smartphone use
Visually, the smartphone with two camera circles on the back is very reminiscent of Huawei devices like the P50. The 70 is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+, like the one in the Nothing Phone (1), for example. Unlike the slightly stronger 780G, the chip is manufactured by TSMC using 6-nanometer technology instead of Samsung’s 5-nanometer technology. The 7 series ranks one notch below the top SoCs of the 8 series in terms of graphics performance, but has enough power for everyday smartphone use. Current games also run without problems. Honor equips the 70 with 8 GB of main memory and 128 or 256 GB of non-expandable flash memory.
The OLED screen measures 6.67 inches diagonally and, according to Honor, covers 100 percent of the DCI-P3 color space. The panel with a resolution of 2400 × 1080 pixels displays a maximum of 120 Hertz, and Honor did not specify the maximum brightness.
Camera with new Sony sensor
The wide-angle 54-megapixel main camera of the Honor 70 is equipped with Sony’s new 1/1.49-inch IMX 800 sensor. She is assisted by a 50-megapixel ultra-wide angle, which also serves as a macro camera. The mid-range device lacks a telephoto.
The 4800 mAh battery charges with the included power pack with a maximum of 66 watts. The smartphone cannot be charged wirelessly. Honor has also done without a headphone jack and protection against water and dust according to IP68.
Honor delivers the smartphone with Android 12 and promises to deliver two upgrades to new Android versions as well as three years of security patches. The version with 128 GB of memory costs 549 euros at market launch, double the memory costs 50 euros more. The smartphone is available now.
In addition to the Honor 70, the manufacturer has announced the 12-inch Pad 8 tablet for the German market, which is already available in China. The tablet screen has a resolution of 2000 × 1200 pixels. Inside is a Qualcoom Snapdragon 680 with 6 GB of RAM. The battery has a capacity of 7250 mAh and, according to Honor, should last 14 hours when playing videos. When asked, Honor did not reveal how long the tablet, which is coming onto the market with Android 12, will be supplied with updates. It costs 349 euros.
