Discord has already released several improvements with new themes, Super Reactions, Soundboard and more. Now another change is coming to the application, because all users of the application will be required to change their username on the social network.
The idea came after a survey found that 40% of Discord users do not remember their username and their discriminator (#) made up of numbers, the only way to find someone on the app since 2015.
Also, Discord’s current username format is still case sensitive in search, which makes it even harder to find a friend through search.
Stanislav Vishnevskiy, co-founder of Discord, then said that Discord’s discriminators had become a problem rather than a solution and now usernames will only consist of letters with @ just like on Instagram and Twitter.
The notification to choose your Discord username will be sent through the app for Android, iOS and Windows, where you will find a link to set the username, which can still be changed at any time.
The new username must comply with Discord’s Community Rules, i.e., it cannot impersonate a celebrity, Discord staff, any organization, or contain terms that attack a group of people or promote hate and explicit language.
In addition, the names must be unique for each user, have from 2 to 32 characters, letters, numbers, period and underline.
Notifications will gradually be sent out to all platform users over the coming weeks, so keep an eye on the app to catch your unique name while no one has used it yet.
