NVIDIA RTX Video Super Resolution technology was announced at CES 2023 along with the new RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 40 GPUs for notebooks and now Google has released an “Early Stable Update for Desktop” that announces support for this new feature in Chrome soon.

RTX Video Super Resolution uses artificial intelligence and neural networks created by NVIDIA to upscale videos and games between 360p and 1440p to 4K resolution with up to 144Hz.

Here’s an example of RTX Video Super Resolution in action in Apex Legends at native 1080p resolution streaming H.264 video at 8mbps bitrate:

According to the Videocardz portal, the novelty is already activated by default in version 110.0.5481.77 of Google Chrome, which should be released tomorrow (7) for everyone in a stable way. However, NVIDIA has yet to release a compatible GeForce driver for PCs. Additionally, an RTX 30 and RTX 40 series GPU will be required to use RTX Video Super Resolution in the browser.

Speaking of video, a new Google Chrome API indicates that the browser could receive further improvements to the picture-in-picture mode, which would be a nice addition combined with NVIDIA technology, which should improve the resolution of videos on unstable connections or limited.
