Apple is preparing to change the Lightning port of its iPhones for the USB-C port, as explained by the analyst Ming Chi Kuo.

Kuo claims that Apple will make this change in 2023so the iPhone 14 will still come with a Lightning port.

Kuo said that the adoption of USB-C “could improve iPhone transfer and charging speed, but final spec details still depend on iOS support.”

Rumors and speculation about Apple’s adoption of USB-C for the iPhone have been ongoing for years. The smartphone industry has embraced the reversible USB-C standard, and Apple itself has partly joined in, adding USB-C to its latest iPads and using USB-C-compatible Thunderbolt ports on many Macs.

Political pressure has also increased, as the EU is in the process of a directive that would make USB-C ports mandatory on smartphones and other electronic devices (with the intention of reducing e-waste by standardizing chargers and data cables). ).

Apple has always been reluctant to this idea. We’ve even heard that the company would rather make its iPhones portless, relying on wireless charging, than use USB-C.
