Facebook is testing the possibility of offering some of its users multiple profiles from the same accounta, specifically up to a total of five profiles. It would be a strategy by Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsaAppp… to retain users in the face of competition from other rivals in the competitive landscape of social platforms.

Users of accounts with multiple profiles would not have to use their real identity when displaying their name publicly

According to the tests that Facebook has been carrying out, some of its users would be offered the possibility of creating other four additional profiles that would be linked to your original account. In this way these other profiles could be used for different purposes.

So one could use to interact with friends, another with co-workers, and still others to interact with different groups of people with common interests. The account would remain unique and the user could switch between the different profiles with a few clicks.

The data communicated from Facebook stands out regarding the fact that users who can create multiple profiles they will not have to use their real names when showing their identity, although they will continue to be subject to the same rules and policies of use of the social network.

This strategy could complement the intention of Meta to have independent accounts for its metaverse, the virtual reality environment developed by the company founded by Mark Zuckerberg in which it has so many hopes. It should also be remembered that Facebook faced the first moment in its entire history in which it lost users at the beginning of 2022.

With growing threats such as the unstoppable growth in users and popularity of platforms like TikTok, any strategy seems little in order to retain users or even win new ones, a task that is becoming increasingly difficult for the social network that, today , continues to have more users around the world, with 2.963 million daily active users.
