If you usually follow what Elon Musk tweets, you know that there is a new conflict on the horizon. Or at least that is what Musk has stated in some of his latest statements.

It is not about internal conflicts at Twitter, but that Musk has opened a dispute with Microsoft. An action that originates from Microsoft’s announcement to remove Twitter from its advertising platform. We tell you all the details.

Microsoft’s ad platform will no longer support Twitter

On their support page, the Microsoft team announced that starting April 25, 2023, Cross-Platform campaigns will no longer be supported on Twitter. So companies will no longer be able to use this Microsoft Advertising solution to manage their presence on Twitter.

A change in strategy by Microsoft in response to the new payment method that Twitter is applying to give access to its API, with some exceptions. A change that would force Microsoft to pay a considerable monthly sum.

Responding to a tweet that mentioned this news, Elon Musk He not only expressed his displeasure, but brought up another topic, with this short statement:

They illegally trained using data from Twitter. Judgment time.

Elon Musk Considers Legal Action Against Microsoft

Although Musk did not add details about this accusation, it seems to refer to the use of Twitter for the training of Microsoft’s AI. And with the enigmatic “judgment time” of him hinting that he is considering legal action against Microsoft.

On the other hand, we cannot forget the tweet that Musk posted months ago about OpenAI and its relationship with Microsoft:

OpenAI was created as an open-source, non-profit company (hence I named it “Open” AI) to serve as a counterbalance to Google, but has now become a top-profit, closed-source company effectively controlled by Microsoft.

So he may not actually be referring to Microsoft directly, but rather OpenAI’s use of Twitter data to train its AI models. None of those involved have given formal statements on the issue, beyond the tweets that started this topic.

And still without throwing out any more details, in a second tweet, Musk goes for more with these statements:

I’m open to ideas, but stealing the Twitter database, demonetizing it (removing ads), and then selling our data to others is not a winning solution.

While he was responding to another user about using the Twitter API and the new payment method that was implemented for its use, Musk continues to drop hints.

Of course, you have to take Elon Musk’s words with care, since he has threatened to initiate legal action against different recipients on other occasions, but those insinuations have come to nothing. So we will have to see how this new conflict develops, which for now only remains in a couple of tweets.
