The next update of iMessage (Messages, Apple’s instant messaging application) will incorporate the option of undo sending messages, offering a period of 15 minutes in order to cancel it. Currently, the operation of this option can be verified in the beta versions of the different Apple operating systems for its mobile devices (iOS 16 or iPadOS 16) as well as for laptops or desktop computers (macOS Ventura), but as is often the case with beta versions of software and operating systems, not everything works perfectly yet.

Both users, sender and receiver, must have installed the latest beta of the OS of the Apple device they use

In this case, the precaution that must be taken into account is that both the sender and receiver of the message whose sending is canceled must have the beta of their respective operating systems installed, and they must also have them installed. on all Apple devices registered under your AppleID. Otherwise, the message cancellation function will not work properly.

When this is the case, the receiver will not see that a message has been sent that has subsequently been cancelled. In the event that the receiver of the message does not have the beta versions of the operating systems installed on all their devices, they will be able to see the message sent and, in the event that a rectified version of the same has been sent later, they will also see it and after the original .

In the case of edit the message, another option that allows beta updates to Apple operating systems, something similar happens. If the receiver is updated, he will only see the edited message, while if he is not, he will receive the original message and then the message with the modification made by the sender in which the operating system add the indication in square brackets of which part has been edited.

Apple displays a warning in iMessage/Messages that the new option to cancel sending messages “may not work in older versions of the software”, thus alerting users to this possibility.

The possibility of editing and canceling messages has been announced for iOS, iPadOS and macOS at the recent WWDC, the World Developers Forum where Apple presents its new software, and probably in the fall, when the final versions of all these operating systems appear, become fully functional.
