Apple releases RCs for iOS 16.3, iPadOS 16.3, tvOS 16.3, watchOS 9.3 and macOS 13.2

Apple has released the Release Candidates for developers iOS 16.3, iPadOS 16.3, tvOS 16.3, watchOS 9.3 And macOS Ventura 13.2. These releases come a week after the previous betas and anticipate the public release which should take place early next week. The iOS 16.3 and iPadOS 16.3 RCs are identified with builds 20D47, respectively. For watchOS 9.3 the build is 20S5637h, for tvOS 16.3 it is 20K6650 and for macOS it is 22D49.

HOW TO INSTALL THEM

As usual, the betas can be installed in OTA mode, directly through the appropriate menu in the iOS, iPadOS and macOS system settings, after having previously downloaded and installed the profiles available on the Apple Developer Center.

To install it on iPhone and iPad, you need to have at least 20% charge remaining and be connected to a Wi-Fi network, but you can also download the update under a 5G network. For watchOS, the app on the connected iPhone must be used and the Apple Watch must have at least 50% autonomy and be within range of the iPhone‌ it is associated with.

iOS 16.3 and iPadOS 16.3 add the support for FIDO certified physical security keys which can be used as extra protection to access your Apple ID. Security keys replace verification codes sent to an Apple device when using an Apple ID. Please note that two physical security keys are required when using this feature as a backup is required in case one of them is lost.


Among the other news, according to what is reported in the changelog, there are a new Unity wallpaper to celebrate Black History Month, support for the new 2nd generation HomePod and the resolution of various bugs including one related to horizontal lines that could temporarily appear during the ignition phase of the iPhone 14 Pro Max. An issue is also resolved on macOS to VoiceOver.
