From a business point of view, cities are always ahead of rural Internet in terms of fiber deployments, taking into account that the investment in infrastructure will be better amortized due to the greater number of potential service contracts.
However, in recent years many operators are finding precisely in these rural and remote areas a niche in which to grow. Now even 10 Gbps fiber optics will be available in this rural setting.
The first rural XGS-PON arrives
Open Network is a Galician company that was born with the aim of favoring economic and technological development in rural areas with a clear mission: to deploy an ultra-fast fiber optic network to promote digitization in rural Galicia.
This objective takes its first steps with the deployment in Ribeira Sacra (Galicia) of the first 10 Gbps XGS-PON fiber optic service in the rural environment in Spain.
In two years, this company has deployed more than 1.3 million kilometers of cable, using pre-existing infrastructures and minimizing the environmental impact, which allows it to offer high-capacity fiber optics to more than 100,000 real estate units in 39 rural municipalities, especially the regions of Chantada, A Ulloa, Terra de Melide, Costa da Morte, Bergantiños or Barcala.
By 2024 they plan to reach more than 400,000 homes in rural areas with fiber optics from the Costa da Morte to the Ribeira Sacra.
Orange and Digi, the most advanced in 10 Gbps
This deployment of this Galician operator is complemented by the deployments that companies such as Orange and Digi to the head.
In the case of the orange operator, it recently presented its new Infinity Pack over 10 Gbps fibersimplifying the process of obtaining maximum speed.
This service will incorporate Infinity Fiber (up to 10Gbps symmetrical), new Livebox router with Wifi 6e, Premium Wifi Service with Wifi 6 repeater and customer support in configuration and start-up. In addition, it also includes customer support after installation, sending a technician to your home, if you need it.
As for the Romanian operator, it originally had its 10 Gbps fiber in a few municipalities in the Community of Madrid, but after a fairly intense summer, its fiber coverage has already reached the provinces of Barcelona, ​​Zaragoza and Vizcaya and some areas of Asturias and La Rioja.
