Korean site The Elec claims that Samsung could choose to release only two phone variants for the 2024 Galaxy S series. It is reportedly working on two projects, which will presumably become the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Ultra, respectively, but a project for an “intermediate model” (S24+) is not underway.

The reasons why Samsung might decide to do without the Galaxy S24 + is that buyers don’t seem to be particularly interested in the Plus-sized models.

According to the report, 31.5 million units of the Samsung Galaxy S22 series were sold, but only 5.5 million (17%) were of the Plus variety. The S22 Ultra (45%) was the most successful, and the standard S22 also sold well (38%). Furthermore, it’s not just the sales of the Plus members of the Galaxy S series that are worrying Samsung; Apple also seems to be suffering with the sales of its iPhone 14 Plus.

Estimated shipment figures for the range are 94.2 million units, with the iPhone 14 standard (32%), iPhone 14 Pro (32%) and iPhone 14 Pro Max (30%) taking the lead. Most. That leaves just 6%, or 5.5 million units, for the iPhone 14 Plus.

Other factors that may force Samsung to remove the Galaxy S24 + from its range are the decline in global smartphone sales and the better profit margins offered by sales of high-end models. Samsung may be focusing primarily on making the Galaxy S24 Ultra the flagship to beat in 2024 to appeal to smartphone fans, while relying on its millions of brand loyalists to grab the standard Galaxy S24, cheaper.
