Samsung has just launched the fastest LPDDR5X RAM in the industry, with data transfer speeds of up to 8.5 Gbps. It should arrive on many smartphones by the end of the year.

About 4 years after introducing the industry’s first 8GB LPDDR5 solution, Samsung is back with new, even faster LPDDR5X RAM. The Korean giant had already launched its LPDDR5X RAM almost a year ago now, which promised faster transfers than ever with 20% less power consumption. The latter has already been used in the Realme GT 2 Master Explorer.

This time, Samsung has bet everything on speed for this new iteration. LSamsung’s new industry-fastest LPDDR5X chip clocked at 8.5Gbps and has received validation for use on Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile platforms. They could therefore arrive on the first smartphones at the end of the year, such as the next Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro, scheduled for the end of November.

LPDDR5X RAM gets faster than ever

After reaching peak speeds of 7.5 Gb/s at the start of the year, Samsung has therefore finally found the formula to push the speed of its LPDDR5X RAM to 8.5 Gb / s. It therefore offers a bandwidth 1.3 times faster than the LPDDR5 it replaces.

High-performance laptops can use this technology because these 16GB LPDDR5X RAM chips can be configured to offer up to 64GB of memory. When Apple introduces new MacBook Pro models next year, we can therefore expect computers to use this new generation. However, whether or not the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros that will arrive at the end of the year is unknown.

Daniel Lee, executive vice president of Samsung’s memory product planning team, said validation with Qualcomm will accelerate the high-speed memory interface to market by more than a year. We should therefore find this new memory fairly quickly on the next high-end smartphones.

Samsung and Qualcomm recently signed a contract stipulating that all future Galaxy smartphones and tablets must use Snapdragon chips, so we can expect the company’s upcoming Galaxy S23s to be powered by this new generation as well. Moreover, a first smartphone benchmark has just appeared earlier this morning.
