The rumors that arrived yesterday turned out to be correct and Apple has just presented the new ones MacBook Pro 14 and 16 inch equipped with the brand new SoC M2 Pro And M2 Max made with production process a 5 nm second generation. There are few innovations on the aesthetic and functional front, since this newborn generation of MacBook is limited to bringing with it an update of the hardware under the body, without however changing much else compared to the lines introduced by the 2021 models, which we reviewed at weather.

THE M2 PRO AND MAX ARE COMING

The transition to SoCs based on the M2 platform brings with it some very welcome innovations, among which an increase in the cores available for the graphics stands out – up to 19 cores on M2 Pro and up to 38 on M2 Max -, in addition to the possibility of installing on both configurations up to a maximum of 96GB of unified storage with band a 200 and 400GBps (M2 Pro and Max).

As for the CPU, the new MacBook Pros can count on up to 12 cores (10 in the basic version of M2 Pro), in this case available on all variants equipped with M2 Pro and M2 Max, in addition to the new 16-core Neural Engine.

Video editing professionals will also be able to count on the new media engine, which can more easily manage video encoding and decoding streams in 8K and ProRES. Among other new features we find support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity.

For the rest we are faced with computers very similar to those already on the market, both equipped with a Liquid Retina XDR mini-LED panel which reaches a maximum brightness of 1,600 nits (in HDR) and technology support ProMotion up to 120Hz. Once again, the port configuration includes 3 Thunderbolt 4, an HDMI port (now with output up to 8K at 60Hz or 4K at 240Hz), an SD card reader and the MagSafe connector for fast charging up to 140W on 16″ model and up to 96W on the 14″ one.
