On January 17, Samsung experienced what is probably its most important day of the year. The  Unpacked of the Samsung Galaxy S24 put three new smartphones on stage  , their top of the range for 2024 and also those that are running for the podium of the best devices this year:  Samsung Galaxy S24, Samsung Galaxy S24+ and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra , the latter being the most advanced of this entire range.

We are experiencing a difficult time in the world of technology. I explain. We increasingly have better features, more functionalities and  hardware worthy of a science fiction movie. They offer us more and more (and the prices also go on a scale), but personally  I have the feeling that we always have the same thing on the table . We have entered an infinite loop in which the ability to surprise us is conspicuous by its absence.

So  I appreciate that Samsung has tried to offer something different . He has not forgotten to equip this new family with the best  hardware possible at the moment, but that is not his ace in the hole. The South Korean company has been very clever and to take advantage of the full potential of these devices (or at least as much as possible) it has focused on two words that we already know very well but of which we are not yet squeezing all of their possibilities: artificial intelligence .

The AI of the Samsung Galaxy S24, in depth

AI has been the main protagonist of these new Samsung devices. This is how they explain it from the company’s ranks: “With this launch we begin a new era in which Samsung will be a benchmark in the integration of AI into the lives of users and we will do it in an open, sustainable, inclusive, but above all, for sure ,” says David Alonso, director of the Mobile Experience area at Samsung Electronics Iberia .

A mistake that many users make is thinking that artificial intelligence is just  ChatGPT . But AI is much more than a chat to which you can ask questions, which composes texts for you or which gives you recipes if you tell it the ingredients you have in the fridge. Samsung has been working on it and brings us a good handful of possibilities so that using the AI integrated into our  smartphone offers us a better experience.

And, beyond the technical specifications that a device can give us, what is important is what it offers us in our daily lives. It is no longer a surprise that a  smartphone takes very good photos or has excellent performance. It seems that the technical specifications have reached their ceiling and that we can continue adding megapixels and lowering nanometers without the user noticing a real change and evolution between one generation and another. Therefore, it is now that I find it especially interesting that  manufacturers are striving to offer something more, putting the user experience at the center of everything.

Let’s see some examples that Samsung itself has shared with us in its presentation of the new Samsung Galaxy S24 Series. The ones that I found most interesting are the Live Translate and Interpreter options . I often have the need to communicate in another language: for work, for tourism… And the truth is, sometimes it costs me more than I would like, especially if I encounter an interlocutor with a very thick accent or if the language is different from the English. Until now, Google Translator was my friend, but I find this option from Samsung even more interesting.

How does it work? It is capable of  translating text and voice in both directions in real time . Imagine that you receive a call from a hotel abroad where you have a reservation. The native application on your Galaxy S24 can show you in text or voice in your native language what they are saying to you and so that you can also communicate in that language. It seems to me to be a very practical option that can solve many problems. Also, an advantage is that it works even if you are not connected to the internet. Touché .

Continuing with something similar, Samsung has focused on communication. After all, that’s what we use  smartphones for , right? Chat Assist personally is not an option that I think I will use, since it helps us express ourselves better and transmit the messages we want in a more correct way, whether we want a more informal tone or something more correct. This seems like a double-edged sword to me and although I know that many people have problems expressing themselves correctly, I believe that letting an AI change our message can cause the problems communicating to continue to increase in the future.

Yes, I really liked the  Android Auto option , which helps us concentrate more on driving and what it does is summarize the incoming messages or even create a communication with the person we have arranged to meet to inform them of how much time we have left. arrive, taking into account the state of traffic, the route, etc.

As a journalist, I find the  Transcript Assist option fantastic. It allows us to translate recordings, transcribe them and summarize them. It’s going to save me a lot of work and it’s going to make things a lot easier for me in certain environments. Thanks, Samsung.

I also loved the  Circle to Search function . To do this, Samsung has worked hand in hand with Google and the result seems spectacular to me. It will allow us to search and find higher quality results with very intuitive and fast gesture control. And I give an example so that you can understand it easily: imagine that you find a Short on YouTube with a very beautiful monument and you want to know where it is. You will only have to long press the start button and go around the monument. The AI will tell you where it is, what monument it is, even offer you information on how to get to it and answer other questions you ask. I have given you the example of a monument because it seems more visual and easier to understand, but there are many ways to take advantage of Circle to Search.

And if what you like is creating photos, of course AI also has a lot of potential in these Samsung Galaxy S24. Let’s now talk about the  ProVisual Engine function , which offers us a package of super powerful AI tools so that we can get a lot out of our photos: improved digital zoom, Quad Tele system or Adaptive Pixel sensor are just some evidence of how we can get the most out of the cameras of these S24. Its possibilities go far beyond its 200 MP.

Among the Galaxy AI editing tools, I found  Edit Suggestion very interesting , which directly suggests the ideal retouches for our photos, or  Generative Edit , which goes one step further and allows us to fill the photos with artificial intelligence to make the image perfect. For example, imagine that you have taken a crooked photo, if we want to straighten it and not lose the format, we need this “filling”. Or perhaps the most common: you take a beautiful photo but you want to move position, you can move and the background is generated with AI so that nothing is noticeable.

We also have innovations in video. For example, the  Instant Slow Mo tool is capable of generating perfectly coordinated frames in the videos that we want to slow down so that they last a little longer.

Technical characteristics of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Series

In this article I did not want to go into much detail about the specifications of these terminals, since in the end the AI is what stood out the most and I wanted to offer you something different, my opinions on these models from a point of view that goes beyond the specs. . But to prevent you from having to look for them yourself, before moving on to the final conclusions, I will leave you below a brief review of the most important data regarding their technical characteristics, so that you can have them recorded and know what to expect from each one of them.

So, is the AI of the Samsung Galaxy S24 as revolutionary as it promises?

I still think that AI still has a lot to give and offer us, but with these possibilities of the Samsung Galaxy S24  I have the feeling of being much closer to that expected future . In the end, AI is not going to make cars fly or make us clap our hands and have a delicious cheesecake on the table. Artificial intelligence for me is what makes your life easier and tools such as generative photo editing, summary of voice recordings or real-time two-way voice translator seem like wonderful options for interacting with our smartphone  in a different way than what we were used to.

My opinion is that Samsung has taken a very important step forward and, above all, it has done so in a completely native way . We will not have to install anything or depend on third-party apps.

As for the  hardware of these devices, it is clear that the three terminals live up to expectations, especially that  Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra that I am betting from now on (and it is a risky bet considering that we are still in January) on which is going to be one of the best  smartphones of the year.
