The Ezviz C6 2K+ offers a 360-degree all-round view via a pan and tilt lens. Thanks to noise recognition, it is also suitable as a baby monitor, for which the integrated gesture recognition is also useful.

The surveillance camera (theme world) Ezviz C6 2K is intended for indoor use. With a pan and tilt lens that records videos with up to 2560 × 1440 pixels, it captures an area of almost 360 degrees. The motion detection should be able to differentiate between people, pets and other moving objects. Since it also reacts to sounds, it can also be used as a baby monitor. The integrated intercom function, which can be activated by gesture, is a useful feature in this scenario. Videos are either stored locally on a microSD card, which is not included in the scope of delivery, or in the Ezviz cloud, which users can test for up to 30 days free of charge.

The round case of the 325 gram Ezviz C6 2K+ measures 100 × 100 × 96.5 mm for width, depth and height. According to the manufacturer, the camera can be used in a temperature range between -30 and 60 degrees Celsius at a humidity of up to 95 percent. Three rubber knobs on the flattened underside of the housing ensure that it does not slip on flat surfaces. However, thanks to the supplied plastic bracket including drilling template, screws and dowels, it can also be installed permanently. It can also be mounted the other way around, for example on a ceiling, since the app can mirror the image from the camera. Power is supplied via the supplied 10-watt USB power adapter in combination with the three-metre micro-USB cable. Alternatively, it can also be operated from a USB socket,

The quick start guide, which is also available in German, only contains a few information about commissioning. However, users can use the QR code printed there to download the complete manual ( PDF ), which explains the functions of the camera and the assembly in detail on a total of eleven pages. The brief instructions are rounded off with an FAQ.

At the front of the round plastic case, there is an oval opening that is approximately 7 cm long and 4.5 cm wide. Behind this opening you can see the inner housing, which contains the lens, two IR LEDs, two microphones and an LED display. The inner case can be tilted 133 degrees, while the swivel mechanism is located in the lower part of the case, which can swivel the upper part up to an angle of 355 degrees.

There are two IR lights above the lens, which become active in the dark using a light sensor with a noticeable click and ensure the camera’s night vision capability of up to eight meters. There are no LED headlights for colored night vision ( guide ). Below the lens, an LED provides information about the operating status. It lights up or blinks in either red or blue. The LED lights up continuously red when the camera is started and blue when the live stream is displayed in the app or a video is being recorded. A slow flashing blue signal indicates normal operation. Flashing red signals either a network error (slow) or a malfunction in the camera such as a microSD card problem (fast).

Is the private modeactive when the camera is active, the inner housing moves up so that the lens disappears. Instead, a face appears, indicated by two semicircles and an oval, filled-in ellipse. Above that, behind a rubber cover, is the microSD card slot and the reset button next to it. To store videos, the former can accommodate microSD memory cards (not included in the scope of delivery) with a size of up to 256 GB. Optionally, users can also take out a cloud subscription, which they can test for up to 30 days beforehand. A seven-day event-based video history for a camera costs EUR 4.99 per month, 30 days costs EUR 9.99. If you use several Ezviz cameras, the costs increase to 7.49 euros and 14.99 euros respectively.

On the back of the Ezviz C6 2K+ there is a micro-USB port for power and an Ethernet port. The camera not only allows connection to a WLAN router via a 2.4 or 5 GHz network, but also in the classic way via a wired network connection.

In the rear area of the case there is a loudspeaker on the upper side behind an approximately 2.5 × 2.5 cm grille. Together with the microphones on the front, a two-way communication function is implemented. So you can communicate with a person in front of the camera. The loudspeaker also serves as an alarm siren. You can also configure it to emit personalized tones up to 10 seconds long when motion is detected. Despite the compact loudspeaker, these are clearly audible and quite suitable for deterring uninvited guests. And the intercom function also worked perfectly in the test. The language is easy to understand on both sides. In connection with the noise detection, the Ezviz C6 2K+ can also be used as a baby monitor. Gesture recognition is also useful for this: If, for example, the baby or a person in front of the camera waves their hand, you receive a video call in the app. At least that worked well in the test with adults. Unfortunately, we were not able to test the feature with a small child.

Ezviz C6 2K+: The camera saves videos either on a microSD card (not included) or in the paid cloud.

The commissioning of the C6 2K+ is, as usual with other Ezviz cameras ( test report Ezviz BC2 ), easy in principle, but requires a user account. To do this, you have to provide at least one e-mail address that will be used to receive the confirmation code required for setup and that you can enter in the app. Access to the app can also be secured with two-factor authentication. Instead of logging in manually every time by entering a user ID and password, users can also use biometric authentication integrated in the smartphone, such as face ID or fingerprints.

After registration, the C6+ is paired with the app. To do this, click on the plus symbol at the top right and select Add device and then cameras . A QR code reader will then open, with which you can scan the QR code on the bottom of the camera. You also have to assign a device password and connect the C6 2K+ to your home WiFi network if the camera is not connected to the router with an Ethernet cable. The C6 2K+ is then ready for use and can be controlled via smartphone app (see also picture gallery).

In addition to the app, users can control the camera with the Ezviz desktop application available for macOS and Windows. However, mobile app and desktop application differ in the options for displaying the live images and in the configuration of the camera. The desktop application only supports changing the resolution and is otherwise of interest for displaying the live stream. If you are using several Ezviz cameras, you can display up to 25 live streams at the same time with the desktop app. In principle, the mobile application can also display several streams in parallel, but this is not so interesting on the smartphone because of the smaller screen. There is also an app optimized for tablets.

After starting the app, the connected cameras are displayed with the last recorded live image. Users can switch the alarm function on and off using the large, round, white and blue button at the bottom edge. However, this applies to all devices connected to the app. The cameras can be activated individually via the three-point menu in the preview image of each camera. Clicking on Library at the bottom right opens the history view of previous warnings including the corresponding recorded videos. The Devices button activates the start page again. Clicking on the image last taken by the camera takes you to the live view. At the bottom of the screen are Snapshot , Record options, private mode active. camera paused. PTZ, speech , resolution , private mode and 360° image ready for control. Users can adjust the order of the options via Reorder . To do this, press the three-line symbol for the corresponding option and move the entry to the desired position. With a click on the wrongly translated option “Repeat recording” at the bottom, the original sorting is restored. Correctly translated, the option should read “Restore default order”. Activating private mode also shows that Ezviz still has room for improvement when it comes to translating the app. Instead of something like ” ” the confusing message “Smart mask is on. Privacy mode disabled.

After clicking on the live image, further configuration and operating options are displayed there. You can pause the video, switch off the sound transmission or use the intercom function. Clicking on the symbol with two rectangles of different sizes and an arrow in the middle right of the live view reduces the video image and displays it overlapping: In this display, the live stream is reduced and can be moved and is permanently active on the smartphone – also on others applications. If you want to view the live stream in the app again, click on the image again and then on the symbol at the top right. Users can access the camera settings either via the tool symbol at the top right in the live view or via the three-point symbol and the selection Set up EZVIZin the device overview. With it, users can configure the intelligent detection, notifications, audio and image settings as well as the status lamp (light) and PTZ settings.

Under General Settings , users can also take out a cloud subscription, switch off video encryption, remove or restart the device and change network settings. The latter is unfortunately only possible via a factory reset. To do this, you have to press the reset button for about five seconds until the English-language message “Reset successfully” confirms the reset.

The camera transmits alarm messages to the user by e-mail or push notifications. Under Settings – Smart Detection, users can specify whether the camera should alert on all movements ( image change detection ), human body detection, pet detection or abnormal noise detection. Users can activate these options together or only use them individually. With the image change detection settingusers are informed of every movement registered by the camera. In practice, this often leads to false alarms. So the limitation to human body detection makes a lot of sense. In the test it works perfectly. It recognizes people, but not pets (cats). The situation is different with pet detection: if it is active, the camera also identifies people as pets. And the abnormal noise detection option ( sound detection would make more sense as a translation) allows users to be alerted when the camera detects a noise. With sensitivity adjustment between low , medium and highusers can optimize the Ezviz C6 2K+ for use as a baby monitor.

On top of that, users can specify how the device alarm should work. The choices are Strong , Weak , Silent Mode and Custom Sound , which can be set by day of the week and time. The Intensive option causes the siren to sound through the camera’s built-in speaker when the camera has detected a motion alarm. The Weak option plays a short beep. It is also possible to use Custom Soundto configure personalized voice recordings with a length of up to 10 seconds as a warning message. While the siren sounds loud despite the compact dimensions, you have to listen carefully to the personalized voice message to hear it. Ezviz should optimize the software for the recording here, especially since the intercom function works with sufficient volume.

Ezviz-C6-2K+: When you turn on the light, it takes a few seconds for the camera to display the image in color again.

The CMOS sensor integrated in the camera records videos with a maximum resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels and up to 15 frames per second. According to the technical data sheet, it should record videos with up to 25 fps – depending on how good the network connection is. However, in the test – even with an Ethernet connection – recordings were only possible with a maximum of 15 fps.

The recording quality is good for a surveillance camera, day and night. At night, it illuminates the environment with two IR LEDs up to a distance of five meters. With enough brightness, it records videos in color. Due to the lack of spotlights, pictures are usually only possible in black and white in low light. The camera sometimes reacts very slowly to sudden changes in light. While the IR night mode is used relatively quickly when the light is switched off and ensures a good black and white picture, it takes much longer the other way around. After switching on the lighting, the camera only reacts with a color image after seven seconds. With little light, such as the radiation from a large monitor, the photos are taken in color. If you switch this light source off and on again,

Although the camera supports the data-saving codec HEVC aka H.265 for recordings, it always takes videos with H.264 in the test, regardless of the resolution selected.

With the activation of WDR, the camera delivers a good display quality even in difficult lighting conditions, such as backlighting.

The camera offers automatic motion tracking and automatic zoom. This worked excellently in the test when you passed the camera from a few meters away. Then she follows you wherever you go. As with many other surveillance cameras with such technology, the Ezviz C6 2K+ also fails if you walk close by. The automatic zoom is also cool, which ensures that a recognized object appears enlarged as a reduced image in the video. This can be helpful for quick identification.

Ezviz-C6-2K+: Live stream on Echo Show 8

The Ezviz C6 2K+ is compatible with the voice assistants Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. In conjunction with a smart display (adviser) , users can also output the camera live stream to a compatible device such as Nest Hub or Echo Show. To do this, however, you have to deactivate the standard encrypted image transmission, otherwise no live image will appear on the smart displays.

Otherwise, the Ezviz C6 2K+ does not offer direct integration into common smart home systems such as Aqara (guide) , Bosch (test report) , Elesion (guide) , Homekit (guide) , Homey Pro (test) , Tuya (guide) or Smartthings (test report ) include. However, it is compatible with the Ezviz smart home solution and with Homematic IP (test report) . It can also be indirectly connected to other smart home solutions via IFTTT.

The Ezviz C6 2K+ leaves a good impression both visually and haptically. Ezviz sells the camera for around 105 euros. There is currently a discount of 8 euros on Amazon, so it is available for less than 100 euros .

Ezviz offers a versatile indoor surveillance camera with the Ezviz C6 2K+. Thanks to a tilting and swiveling lens, it offers a 360-degree all-round view. The image quality is quite impressive in the truest sense of the word. Especially thanks to WDR, good recordings are possible even in difficult lighting conditions. It is also positive that users do not have to take out a paid cloud subscription to save videos or use certain functions. So there are no follow-up costs.

Thanks to the ability to distinguish between movements of all kinds and people, false alarms are practically impossible. However, the pet detection did not work satisfactorily in the test. With the app, users can comprehensively configure and operate the C6 2K+. However, Ezviz should correct incorrect or confusing translations in some places. The movement tracking and the automatic zoom work flawlessly in the test, and the intercom function also gives no cause for criticism. Together with the integrated noise and gesture recognition, the Ezviz C6 2K+ can also be used as a baby monitor.
