The YouTube channel of Europeian Paulo Gomes, well known for modifying video cards, released a new video showing a OMG Radeon RX 5600 XT with an alteration that left it with twice as much memory, that is, 12 GB of VRAM.

To accomplish this feat, technicians replaced the 1GB at 14Gbps memory modules with 2GB at 16Gbps. It took a few tries for the modification to succeed and a Specific BIOS for the 12 GB GPU had to be created.

After everything has been validated and recognized by the system, the AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT with 12 GB of VRAM was tested in the Superposition benchmark and consumed more than 10 GB. The score obtained more than doubled in comparison to the original model.

After a positive repercussion among the channel’s followers, another video was posted with the tests of the modified GPU in the Resident Evil 4 Remake game and it was possible to verify the big difference that double the VRAM caused in the game’s performance.

The modified AMD graphics card with 12 GB managed to run the game above 60 FPS all the time, while the version with 6 GB of VRAM had drops below 20 FPS and could not even reach 60, because of the memory limitation .

The test made it clear that the Radeon RX 5600 XT even has the firepower to handle the Capcom game, but only if it has available memory to allocate the textures, which are getting heavier with each launch of the gaming industry.
