The umpteenth increase in COVID-19 infections in the United States would have forced Apple to postpone for the umpteenth time (it has been trying since last June) its plan to return to the office from the current two days to three days a week.
The Cupertino company, as reported by Bloombergwould have recently informed the employees of this decision that has postponed until a later date this further step of “return to normality” initially scheduled for next 23 May.
However, Apple expects that employees can continue to return at least two days a week, as has been the case since last April 11. The Cupertino company also required employees to start wearing protective masks again in common areas, at least in Silicon Valley offices.
After months of smart working, many employees had criticized Apple’s decision claiming that commuting makes you lose many hours that could be used differently, also increasing productivity. Emblematic is the story of Ian Goodfellow, Head of Apple’s machine learning division, who resigned precisely because of the decisions of Apple which, on the other hand, has always maintained that the best way to work is in presence.
Among other “big techs”, Google also recently asked its employees to be in the office three days a week. Meta Platforms and Twitter, on the other hand, will allow some employees to work from home indefinitely, even if they have an office.
