Apple’s new Mac Pro will not allow “after market” to upgrade your graphics card or increase RAM. At least that’s what he said Mark Gurman, Bloomberg reporter. In practice, the Mac Pro may be slightly more powerful than a Mac Studio but with a much larger footprint. Given the architecture developed by Apple for its SoCs, there was actually a suspicion that this Mac Pro would not be as scalable as the current version using Intel processors.

In practice, as already happens on other Macs, once you buy a Mac Pro it will no longer be possible to improve the performance further but you can only increase storage capacity. That is, unless Apple makes it possible to use external graphics cards (eGPUs), which is highly unlikely. Gurman also added that the design of the new Mac Pro should be exactly the same of the current version, a “tower” with a perforated front.

The design should remain completely unchanged from the current model

In addition to using a M2 Ultra processorAlso, the “main difference between a Mac Pro and a Mac Studio” should be the performance derived from increased cooling capacity and heat dissipation as well as the ability to have a more powerful GPU with up to 76 cores. At the moment, the possibility of seeing an “Extreme” M2 which, according to rumors, would have offered a 45-core CPU and up to 152 graphics cores would seem to have completely vanished.

Already in recent weeks, the authoritative Bloomberg journalist had reported that Apple would have planned the release of a new Mac Pro with M2 Ultra chip, identical design to that of the 2019 model and with RAM that cannot be upgraded by the user. Gurman also added that the new Mac Pro will feature two SSD slots and will be offered in only one configuration.
