Your AMD RX 7900 XT or XTX graphics card consumes much more than it should? Do not panic, AMD has deployed a new driver which should correct this excessive power consumption.
If the new RX 7900 graphics cards from AMD are very interesting to buy compared to their rivals from the 4000 series from Nvidia, these suffer from a high power consumption issue in some use cases. Indeed, some of our colleagues noticed that the new GPUs of the RX 7900 family consume a surprising amount of power when decoding videoswhen multi-monitor setups are idling, or when desktop windows are moved.
We are talking here about a consumption often almost twice as high as other graphics cards on the market, which is obviously much more than necessary. Fortunately, AMD has just rolled out a new driver, and the latter should allow you to considerably reduce your electricity bill.
AMD fixes the high consumption of its RX 7900 graphics cards
Adrenalin Edition 22.12.2 WHQLan exclusive RDNA 3 series driver, promises to significantly reduce power usage when GPU is used to speed up video decoding. The update also includes other improvements, such as fixing a bug that appeared when using virtual super definition with multi-monitor configurations, a system crash when changing display modes with configurations to 4 screens, but also a crash when loading Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
However, AMD notes that high power consumption in standby mode when using high definition and high refresh rate displays is not fixed. The giant therefore already promises a future update to solve other energy consumption problems. To download the new driver, we remind you that you can go directly through the dedicated software AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition, or directly download the update file from the official website for your Windows 10 or Windows 11 computer.
In the meantime, we remind you that the RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX have been available for sale in France for a few days now. However, it might be difficult to get hold of a copy, since scalpers have as usual cornered the first arrivals.
