The new generation of the Galaxy S family is here and brings small but important improvements compared to the previous one

It’s been several weeks since Samsung summoned us for today, January 17, for a new Galaxy Unpacked. The day has arrived and we already have among us another generation leap in the high range of the South Korean firm’s phones.

The new Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra They are now official and bring with them small, but important improvements with respect to the Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra. The most notable thing is the great prominence that artificial intelligence has acquired. But It’s not the only change. Let’s see them in detail.

Lots of AI with a sustainable point

AI, AI and more AI. Or rather, Galaxy AI. Samsung wants artificial intelligence to be fully integrated into users’ lives to transform our daily lives. For this reason, it has provided the new Galaxy S24 series with numerous functions that use AI to improve the user experience.

From doing intelligent translations text and calls in real time with Instant Translation (Live Translate) to increase creative freedom in taking and editing images, including redefining searches with Circle to Search, a tool created together with Google.

Aside from AI, another point that Samsung emphasizes is the sustainable design of the new Galaxy S24. Aesthetically, they are virtually the same as the S23 (except for the titanium frame of the S24 Ultra), but now feature components made from cobalt and rare elements recycled from the earth, such as neodymium.

Not in vain, they are the first devices in the Galaxy S range to be designed with steel and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) recycled. What is maintained is the IP68 water and dust resistance certification.

Slight hardware improvements

In the technical section, the screen of the three Galaxy S24 models has a adaptive refresh rate 1-120 Hz, reaches a maximum brightness of 2600 nits and features improved outdoor visibility with Vision Booster.

The resolution of the AMOLED panel is practically the same as in the previous generation (except for the S24+ which goes from FullHD+ to QHD+), but it has grown slightly and the maximum brightness has improved. Additionally, the Ultra model’s screen it is flatter and has Corning Gorilla Armor glassmore resistant and with less reflections.

Another improvement of the S24 compared to the S23 is that the new models equip a steam chamber Up to 1.9 times larger, which reduces device surface temperature and maximizes power performance.

Special mention to the processor, which is an Exynos again in the S24 and S24+ models, specifically, the Exynos 2400. The S24 Ultra makes the expected jump from the Snadpragon 8 Gen 2 to the Snadpragon 8 Gen 3 and abandons the 8 GB of RAM, just like the S24+.

The stock operating system, as expected, advances to One UI 6.1 based on Android 14, but now Samsung promises seven years of updates.

The battery of the S24 and S24+ has increased its capacity compared to the S23 and S23+, and in the three new models the speed has increased in both wireless charging and PowerShare reverse wireless charging.

None of the models improves the front camera, which still maintains a single 12 MP sensor. What has evolved is the rear camera of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, whose system Quad Tele with a 5x optical zoom lens works with a 50 MP sensor.

And the price? The base model of the S24 and S24+ has dropped when compared to the base model of the S23 and S23+, respectively. Not so for the S24 Ultra, whose starting price is 1,459 euros, 50 euros more than what the S23 Ultra cost in its day.
