Apple launches the new Mac mini with M2 and M2 Pro processors, offering greater performance at much more interesting prices
Apple announced the M2 chip in June at WWDC 2022, improving the performance of the M1 processor released in November 2020. Today, Apple has expanded its lineup of Macs with M2 chips, including the new M2 Pro and M2 Max. The new Mac mini comes equipped with the M2 and M2 Pro chips, which Apple says offer significantly better performance than the previous generation.
The M2 Pro offers pro-level performance for the macmini for the first time. With a CPU of up to 12 cores, consisting of eight high-performance and four energy-efficient cores, along with a GPU up to 19 coresthe M2 Pro boasts a memory bandwidth of 200 GB/s, twice that of the M2, and supports up to 32 GB of memory. The Neural Engine next generation is 40% faster than the M1which streamlines ML tasks like video and image analysis.
Designed to significantly speed up video playback and encoding with very little power consumption, the M2 Pro offers a powerful media engine, which performs with the most popular video codecs and can simultaneously play up to five 8K ProRes 422 video streams at 30 fps or up to 23 4K ProRes 422 video streams at 30 fps. The model with the M2 Pro chip is up to 14 times faster than the fastest Intel-based Mac mini.
The Mac mini with M2 and M2 Pro has the same design than before, unchanged despite rumors suggesting a complete redesign. for models Mac mini with M2 Prousers have four Thunderbolt 4 ports compared to just two on models with M2. In both chip configurations, the Mac mini features an ethernet port, an HDMI port, two USB-A ports, and a headphone jack.
The new Mac mini with M2 and M2 Pro are available to pre-order today and will begin shipping next Tuesday, January 24.
