When we got to test it in preview last November, immediately after the launch in China, we wondered if Honor’s Magic Vs was the “perfect foldable” smartphone. Maybe not yet, but it features high-end hardware and a hinge that’s made using only 4 components and any type of gear are certainly an excellent business card for this device that from today also officially arrives on the Italian market.

HINGE WITHOUT GEARS
Compared to its competitors, Honor Magic Vs is thin and light, it is only 12.9 mm thick when folded And a weight of 267 gramsi thanks also to a support structure of the external screen made of magnesium alloy which has made it possible to reduce the weight by 34% compared to the predecessor while guaranteeing high strength. The internal part, on the other hand, is in titanium alloy and the rear shell in glass with a particular 3D texture. Magic Vs also has a version made with a vegan leather back which is not available for sale in Italy.
On this Magic Vs, Honor also has completely reengineered the hinge made using a single-piece casting technology which has made it possible to reduce the number of structural components from the 92 of the previous generation to just 4. The absence of gears allows the hinge to withstand up to 400,000 folds as tested and certified by TÜV Rheinland which is equivalent to more than ten years of use with 100 folds per day.
Furthermore, the structure of the hinge, in addition to allowing the device to be closed without leaving empty spaces, which avoids the accumulation of dust and other foreign bodies, allows for an almost completely flat screen when open.
SNAPDRAGON 8+ GEN1 AND 12GB RAM
The processor is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen1, an octa-core with Adreno 730 GPU, supported by 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage space. On the connectivity side, we have support for 5G networks (NR) with dual SIM card slots (dual nano SIM), Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax (2×2 MIMO, HE160), Bluetooth 5.2, aGPS, USB 3.1 GEN1 and NFC. Present sensors for fingerprint recognition, gravity, infrared, gyroscope, ambient light and proximity.
7.9 INCH OLED DISPLAY
Honor Magic Vs is equipped with a 6.45-inch OLED external display with a 21:9 aspect ratio, slightly curved on the outer edge, with a screen-to-body ratio of 90% and a maximum brightness of 1200 nits, which allows for excellent visibility even in direct sunlight. The resolution of this panel is 2560×1080 pixels, the refresh rate is at 120Hz and HDR10+ is supported and the DCI-P3 color space coverage reaches 100%.
When unfolded, Magic Vs offers a tablet-like experience thanks to a internal 7.9-inch OLED display which offers a maximum brightness of 800nits, a 2K+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. This panel also supports the use of a stylus with a latency of only 2ms, HDR10+ and has 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space.
Magic Vs supports professional eye comfort solutions including dynamic dimming, circadian night display and 1920Hz PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) dimming, the highest frequency ever achieved in current foldable smartphone markets, to effectively reduce the effects of digital eye strain.

54 MEGAPIXEL MAIN CAMERA
The photographic sector sees the adoption of a triple rear camera with 54 megapixel Sony IMX800 main sensor with f/1.9 aperture flanked by a 8 megapixel telephoto lens with 3X optical zoom and aperture f/2.4 and a third from 50 megapixels with ultra wide angle optics, f/2.0 aperture and 122-degree field of view. There are gods on both the internal and external displays 16 megapixel sensors with f/2.45 aperture.
Despite its compact shape, Magic Vs is however equipped with a 5000 mAh battery (typical value) with 66W wired fast charging (11V/6A SuperCharge, compatible with 10V/4A) able to offer up to over 10 hours of use and a full charge in about 46 minutes. There is no wireless charging. Honor Magic Vs also integrates an independent security memory chip for greater hardware-level protection.
ANDROID 13 AND MAGICOS INTERFACE 7.1
Honor Magic Vs is based on Android 13 with MagicOS 7.1 UI. In addition to Honor Connect, for collaboration between multiple devices, and Magic Text, for intelligent text recognition, Magic Vs also features Smart Multi-window and APP Extender to support multi-tasking between applications and within the same application.
