The checks for smart garages they are arriving in the Google Home preview app, according to the proliferation of reports on Reddit that confirm their silent appearance. The functionality seems to have been distributed but only to some users, and the confirmation came from the publication of an image of the pill shaped open/close controls, tested within the application by the lucky ones who are experimenting with it. It is therefore about a preview function and not an official release.

We know that Google is currently overhauling its Home app to prepare for Matter and has been working on an updated version since October last year, so it is very likely that during the next Google I/O we may receive additional details and other upcoming updates of the ‘Google Home app. Here is the screen of the switch seen by users.

The 9to5Google site confirms that the preview controls work with garage door systems from Tailwind and Nexx, but it should be noted that there is no list of supported products yet.

There had previously been some signs that the change was on the way, as smart garage systems have been showing up in the Google Home app for some time, but the feature didn’t yet support the controls.

Until now, users have been forced to use Google Assistant to control automatic garages with voice commands (which typically require a PIN for added security). Anyone wishing to try the novelty ahead of time will need to request an invitation to the preview version of Google Home. Otherwise it is possible to rely on third-party solutions to force the controls from the Google Home app, but the operation is not always consistent with the rest of the ecosystem and it is not as well integrated as the one in question.
