Google Docs is adding a new feature that will make it easier to track document edits in collaborative work.

While Docs already has a full system for teamwork, it now adds a new type of notification so that important document changes don’t go unnoticed.

Google Docs will notify you when and how your documents have been edited

Although Google Docs allows us to know when one of our collaborators is editing a document, and even allows us to review the changes in real time that the rest of the team is making, we cannot control the edits that occur when we are offline.

So that this is not a problem, Google Docs will allow you to configure notifications about the changes that occur in a shared document. As you can see in the image, you will receive an email in Gmail notifying you when, who and what kind of changes have been made during your absence.

That way, Docs saves you from having to go back through your edits to review the changes your colleagues have made. It’s a dynamic that will be useful whether you have to monitor changes or simply want to stay up to date with the changes that the rest of your team has proposed in the document.

As the Google team mentions, we can specify what kind of change and feedback we want to be notified about. So we can customize the notifications to only receive information about the changes that interest us.

One thing to keep in mind is that notifications are disabled by default, so you’ll need to turn them on for the documents you want to track. To do this, you just have to click on the bell icon from the document’s drop-down menu.

This new option is available to both Google Workspace, G Suite Basic, and Business customers, as well as users with personal Google accounts.
